History of Pinebluff Real Estate

The Scottish influence is reflected in the names of the early towns and residents. The Blues from Aberdeen, who ventured further south, were the original residents of Pinebluff.

John Patrick had the idea to create a duplicate of his accomplishments in Southern Pines and bought 772 acres in 1884. He paid $1,000 for the land that included a 22-acre mill property and a millpond. His plan was to turn this town into a second resort. Patrick wanted to attract settlers and businessmen from the North and worked for 20 years to attract new residents to Pinebluff. Disastrous fires stunted their development.

In February of 1898, sparks from the railroad started a fire near West End. It reached Pinebluff and destroyed Patrick's office and print shop. The Collins Hotel, constructed by Patrick also burned down. This was tragic because the grand opening was only a month away.  car at Kelly's Classic Cars in Pinebluff

On April 4, 1963, another fire in Pinebluff's fire-studded history started at a sawmill site. Seven hours later, the fire reached Pinebluff, located eight miles to the south of the sawmill. More then half the residences in town were either destroyed or severely damaged.

Dr. John W. Achorn, stepped up to assume the responsibilities of leadership in Pinebluff. Achorn, along with his wife and her mother, laid the foundation for Pinebluff to become a very pleasant residential area. Pinebluff is a town where community has survived and flourished. Even though Pinebluff didn't become the resort that Patrick wanted, it has become home to many retirees and military retirees from neighboring Ft. Bragg and Pope Air Force Base.

Pinebluff, with it's 2,000 residents, has a strong recreational program that centers around Pinebluff Lake. This private, spring-fed lake is cool and refreshing even on the hottest summer day. A "bedroom community" has developed in recent years for working class and young professional people who work in Fayetteville, Pinehurst, Southern Pines and surrounding towns and cities in the areas.
