 A short, fairly easy course on Midland Road in Southern Pines that is well maintained and has very reasonable rates.
Designed by Dan Maples, Longleaf is a semi-private Country Club in a residential community 2 miles from Pinehurst on Midland Road, and is situated on the former site of Starland Farm, which was a race horse training facility. Parts of the old racetrack are still visible on the course and within the community. The front 9 is very flat and straight and is visible from Midland Road.
The back 9 is hilly and curvy and passes by a number of golf front homes. All of the greens are soft and forgiving. Rates range from $30 mid week with the Golf Capital Card to about $95 on the weekends without the card. Open to the public all year. The clubhouse is a very nice building with a restaurant/bar and a small banquet facility. The pro shop is adequate but fairly small. The club itself features a swimming pool, tennis courts and a croquet/lawn bowling facility.

Longleaf offers Memberships for a very reasonable initiation fee - $3,000. Dues vary from about $250 - $350 per month based the kind of membership that you choose (individual, family, corporate, etc). If you live at Longleaf and play golf 3 times per week or more, then the membership is a great deal.
The bottom line – Longleaf is a great to place to play in the afternoon on weekends. The front 9 is perfect if you have not played in a while and you need some wide open terrain to get back into the swing of things. Longleaf has some of the best values in the area when it comes to condos and townhomes. There are new golf front and golf view units under construction that are high on our list for convenience and lifestyle.
