 Tobacco Road is located just 30 minutes up the road from Pinehurst NC and Southern Pines. It is actually closer to Sanford NC. There is not any real estate for sale on the course, so this public course is just pure golf – no houses or condos and no pool or tennis courts.
If you don't hit accurate shots, practice your bunker shots and take a lot of extra golf balls! This Mike Strantz course is challenging, and when played from the pro tees, it can be one of the most difficult courses in North Carolina. The course is very scenic and makes very creative use of the landscape to demand accurate shots. There is a lot of sand on the course and what seem like a lot of waste areas. The course is always in very good condition. If you can successfully aim your shots, you will have a great time at Tobacco Road.
Even if you don't, you'll be amazed when you play this course. As you drive in, you wonder where in the world you are going. But, the experience just gets better as you make your way around the course. Tobacco Road is so different from any other Pinehurst area course, I would say it is a must play if you are in the area for more than 3 days. Rates with cart range from about $50 during low season on weekday to about $140 on weekends in high season. However, if you have a Golf Capital Card, you get a very deep discount.
The Pro Shop is a good one, and Clubhouse is one of the most unique I have ever seen. It is designed like an old barn and is built with a lot of re-claimed wood. There is a fireplace and it is actually a great place to hang out and recover from a tough round.

Play Tobacco Road. If you are moving to the area and you are on a budget, wait until you move to Moore County or one of the other surrounding areas and get your Golf Capital Card. The course is an easy drive from most residential areas in and around Pinehurst. Plus, there are a number of golf communities in the Sanford area as well.
